About the Tour
In this tour we will visit the Castle of Ourém and its medieval town
We begin our tour with the pick up at your hotel in Fátima at 9 a.m. or 2 p.m.
Stop 1
Medieval Town - We begin our tour in the Colegiada church, it was originally built in the 12th century and remodeled in the 15th century, however the 1755 earthquake destroyed the church almost in its entirety. Only the gothic crypt survived the catastrophe, as well as the 15th century tomb of D. Afonso, 4th Count of Ourém. We will also visit the pillory and the Ucharia an old prison/warehouse transformed into a gourmet restaurant and shop.
Stop 2
Castle of Ourém - Conquered in 1136 to the moors by King Afonso I of Portugal, this castle is located on a top of a hill surrounded by vineyards and farmlands. Due to its location, this place has been used as a defense point since prehistoric times. Here we will visit not only the castle, the residence of the Counts of Ourém and the defensive towers but also the St. James yard where we will find a statue of D. Nuno Álvares Pereira.
Stop 3
And to finish our tour we will descend to the medieval town to taste a ginjinha liquor in a chocolate cup.
Return to Fátima
Finished the tour we will arrive at Fátima around 12 p.m. or 5 p.m.
